After a mere two weeks of convalescence, for lack of a better word, I think I might be back in the game. I can hardly recall the last time I attempted to take some serious self-portraits so this was exactly how I spent ~2 hours of my Friday night. Though I’ve strongly felt my photog skills been at a plateau, I’m ready to pick it back up. The usual white wall confinement aside, I toyed with harsh lighting, awkward poses plus some new editing tricks. I’m convinced I lack an eye for color, hence never being able to achieve the “look” I want and just winging it, but I’m determined to practice again. On the topic of editing, Zanita’s Photoshop Course is extremely useful even for someone who’s already familiar with Photoshop and has a few tricks up their sleeves like me – I swear I’m not trying to make a sale and I’m not just saying it because..err..she’s my boss. It just happens to be one of my favorite courses she offers.
Back to the portraits – many of the photos I took didn’t make the cut and these hardly slipped by. It looks like I need to get comfortable with variability and looking like a goof ball. More practicing to come.
With an uncluttered backdrop, I felt black & white would be pretty appropriate…not sure how I feel about the end result though. Some might ask, “Why so mad”, but in fact, I’m not mad…that’s just how I look if I’m not smiling (oops). In terms of photography and self-shooting itself, I still have long ways ahead…if you have any suggestions whether it’s about photography, posing, or editing, I’d love to hear! I can’t wait for El Capitan to support tethering on the Nikon D610 so I can have more flexibility in positioning and framing myself…technology is such a pain in the arse.
So what do you think of my first real whirl of the year?
