Ouai Vs Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

Amid the the frenzy at LAX as I write this post with Ouai Wave SprayTexturizing Hair Spray buried in my locks…

I’m sure you’ve heard me repeatedly, but I do have quite the obsession with gritty bedhead hair! I think that obsession exacerbates because it’s near impossible for me to actualize. That doesn’t stop me from trying though!

For someone who hates spending money on hair products, I fell victim to Oribe two years ago in frantic hopes that somewhere in my distant dreams, volume and texture are possible for someone like me. And then shortly after, Ouai divulged. Can you imagine my dilemma?

Immediately the questions loomed over – which is more effective? More expensive? How do the two compare?

Did any of you find yourself in this predicament with the launch of Ouai? I wanted to give myself enough time to test the two before writing this review and it’s been over a month now, so I think I could be fair… During Black Friday, I bought myself another backup of the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, and I’m wondering now if that was the right decision…

Price-wise, the two are essentially the same. Oribe comes at $44 for 8.5 oz while Ouai’s Texturizing Hair Spray is available for $26 in 4.5 oz. The former is a tinge more expensive, but not enough to be a deal breaker. If you have tons of thick hair, Oribe would be a better choice; however, if you’re like me (flat uncooperative hair), Ouai will give you tons more hold which in turn creates more movement and texture. I don’t find the Ouai Texturizing Spray spectacular by itself or anything and would never use it alone, but it’s damn fantastic when used in conjunction with the Wave Spray.

Is there one I’d recommend over the other? Short answer, No. Long answer: It’s important to consider your hair type. Even if you have fine hair, Oribe might still be the better option if volume or hold isn’t a concern. My hair lacks hold of all kinds and because that is so important to me, Ouai becomes the better choice. I noted in my Ouai review that I purchased the full-size version of the Wave Spray and I’m getting ready to do the same with the Texturizing Hair Spray.

I don’t think either of these brands are overrated – in fact, I love them! But I don’t think it’s necessary for anyone to buy both…
