There are a lot of things in life that I love and don’t really mind spending hard-earned money on and for the sake of this blog, that encompasses good makeup, good skincare products, & wardrobe staples. The one thing that doesn’t include is anything related to hair. I’ve been disappointed one too many times to be fooled again. But one thing in particular has lingered in the back of my mind for years and that is the Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray. At $42 a pop, it’s no wonder I’ve wavered all this time. The other thing is this stuff never goes on sale nor does it get promoted so of course I don’t want to jump into limbo. However, during the glorious Black Friday, Birchbox decided to promote its entire website to 25% off – well damn, that was the ultimate whistle to go for it and that I did…
As we all know, Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray receives nothing but accolades from the most distinguished blogger to the girl next door…so what’s the real deal? I’m almost like the Simon Cowell of hair products so here’s the low down:
It smells amazing…the slightest fume literally has me in awe. Scent aside, I was a bit let down in the volume department because there has been way too much hype. I like it a lot, but I don’t love it. That being said, I’m not sure it’s a staple. Don’t get me wrong – it creates wonderful, texturized hair without the crispiness or stickiness, but I don’t believe that alone warrants its high price tag. Upon initial application, the volume I was praying for does materialize, but within about an hour or two it starts dwindling down – this lasting power is the longest I’ve seen of any spritz/spray I’ve trialed, which has been quite a bit in my lifetime. I haven’t tried it as a dry shampoo so I have no input there, but it works beautifully on fresh, clean hair. For now, it gets reserved for special occasions and night outs when I want that extra oomph or perfect undone look – I just know the volume won’t last all night as everyone claims.
