The Korean Lip

Don’t judge me, but I’ve been into watching Korean dramas lately…I’m typically not even the kind to sit in front of the TV for hours, but maybe old age is getting to me since I’ve been living vicariously through these romance stories over the last week. Anyway, I’ve always been quite intrigued with Korean makeup trends, which is very different from the overplayed and trite Kardashian look the west is so ever obsessed with at the moment. While we’re obsessing with highlighting + contouring, our friends across the ocean are all about looking youthful, which basically involves a play on dewy skin, full brows, wide-open eyes, and soft lips. With a stronger face structure, I can’t really pull off the whole thing so instead I just add some soft touches, i.e. it’s all in the lips.

If you pay attention to Korean makeup, then it’s obvious that a feathered lipstick look is what’s poppin right now. To get the look, I just applied my favorite lip balm: Dior Creme de Rose and layered Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Biscayne Park on top. Then, I lightly patted Stila’s Liquid Lipstick – Beso in the center of my lips with my fingers to achieve that subtle gradient. After a few lip smacks, I have this pigmented, but faded lip color going which gives off the impression that I just ate a red popsicle – very youth-inducing indeed. It’s cute, but I’m not sure I would do this every day.
