The influencer space is a funny one… I find myself in constant ebbs and flows. High and lows. I’m here, then I’m not, but one thing is certain, the urge to be here never fully dissolves.
You might be wondering why I stayed so quiet these last few months and I have to be honest that right after fashion month and my trip to Europe, I started to feel really jaded and uninspired by the industry – AND everyone in it. I know you all can agree that there’s SO much noise and SO much of the same old tricks to grow followings (e.g. S4S, loop giveaways, and F4F amid others) that you start to wonder how much of what you see is even real. It gets disappointing fast. Then I look at myself and I know for sure that it all can’t be a facade – a numbers chasing game because it’s never been for me.
This got me thinking AGAIN for the millionth time what I wanted to do with LE JOLIE. It wasn’t until my trip to LA back in April that I guess as some would say, the stars aligned, and I was ready to return to the business. I really owe the biggest thanks to my brother for sitting me down and forcing me to pare back and understand why I do what I do and why it’s so important for me to keep doing it – otherwise, I’d just take my ass back to corporate. In the same few days, an aspiring blogger all the way from London asked me to coach her on blogging. Despite creating content and working alongside the industry’s TOP and BEST influencers for years now, I had never once considered coaching nor teaching someone else my skills… Why? No damn clue.
Reality is, I do what I do because I never thought I could do it. I’ve since learned that without privilege, anyone can do this as long as they have the right structure in place, mindset, and self-discipline. And if I can be that person to give this structure and mindset back to the world – to the community that drove me here in the first place, it’s the greatest gift I can offer. So, that’s my rebranding story in a nutshell.
Though my content has always aimed to pull back the curtains of the influencer industry, I’m adding several more layers to it (read here) AND I’m in the process of creating something substantial…
